What is acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an East Asian Healing modality that has been used for over 2500 years in the treatment of a wide array of maladies.  The practice of Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine, filiform needles through the skin at specific points on the body for relief of pain and/or disease. Acupuncture has shown to be effective for conditions where pain and inflammation are impacting quality of life.  Patients report multidimensional, beneficial changes in health including improved mood, better sleep, an increased sense of well-being, and the reduction or elimination of pain.

Ancient Chinese physicians had a sophisticated understanding of human anatomy for their time.  In recent research of acupuncture point locations, classical acupuncture points have found to correspond to trigger points or other areas of neuroanatomical significance. In addition, acupuncture meridians have strong correspondence with myofascial lines of connective tissue that run through the body. Manipulation of acupuncture points and acupuncture meridians with fine needles can alleviate pain through the release of endogenous endorphins, increased blood flow, and regulation of the stress response.
